I'm Mónica, the founder of CLAYMOSS, and this is the story behind our brand.
In 2019, I discovered the fascinating world of ceramics, an art form that captivated me from the very beginning. What started as a hobby quickly became a passion that led me to experiment with porcelain and begin designing unique jewelry. The idea of creating pieces that combine delicacy, beauty, and craftsmanship soon became my new calling.
After a 25-year career as an executive in the pharmaceutical industry, I made the decision in 2022 to leave it behind and dedicate myself fully to CLAYMOSS. This brand not only represents my love for ceramics, but also a personal rebirth and my desire to create something meaningful and one-of-a-kind, a change that allowed me to follow my true passion.
The name CLAYMOSS comes from “clay,” the material at the heart of all our creations, and “Moss,” which stands for my initials: Mónica Sáez Sánchez, weaving my identity into each piece I create.
At CLAYMOSS, every piece of jewelry is carefully handmade, with special attention to detail and a constant pursuit of perfection. CLAYMOSS is much more than a jewelry brand; it’s an expression of art and dedication, and a commitment to quality and sustainability. Each Claymoss piece is unique, handcrafted in porcelain and carefully selected to ensure durability and beauty.
At CLAYMOSS, we follow the principles of slow design. A philosophy that honors conscious creation, giving each piece the time it needs to reach perfection in every detail. Our process is a true work of art:
Design: It all begins with a clear vision of the elegance and sophistication we want to express in each piece.
Handcrafting: The porcelain is shaped by hand with precision and care, following the initial design.
Natural drying: Pieces are slowly air-dried to develop the perfect firmness.
Polishing: Once dry, the jewelry is hand-polished to remove imperfections and smooth the surface.
First firing: At 980°C–1020°C, strengthening each piece and increasing durability.
Final polishing: After the first firing, another polish ensures a smooth surface ready for color.
Hand-painting and glazing: Each piece is painted and glazed by hand, giving it its signature shine and color.
Second firing: At 1250–1300°C, vitrifying the glaze for a strong, glossy finish.
Third firing with gold or platinum: For pieces with a gold or platinum luster, a third firing at 800°C sets the metallic finish, adding luxury and exclusivity.
Sustainability is central to our mission: we carefully select materials, recycle porcelain, and apply techniques to minimize environmental impact. We believe true beauty lies in the connection between art and nature.
